Good Growing
Marigolds are tender plants that cannot survive winter in the cold. All are best grown from seed as summer annuals. Sow them indoors 2 weeks before the last frost in your area, or directly outdoors in climates that don’t dip below 50°F.
Marigolds like a lot of everything: sun, drainage, and nutrition. They prefer the heat but will start to go crispy along their leaf margins if they don’t get enough water. Given enough of all three ingredients, they will keep pumping out flowers until they call it quits in the fall. Deadhead spent blooms to keep the plants producing.
